400 years ago, our ancestors had survived famine and sickness in the new land. The Mayflower ship left for England on April 5,1621. It’s hard to imagine the grief the Pilgrims suffered and the strength it must have taken to carry on. This is in contrast to our present pandemic.

The vaccines are underway. It is only a matter of time before our membership and their families can share together in our traditional “in person” celebrations. Our Board of Assistants meetings have gone virtual using zoom. Our Spring meeting was canceled. We expect to celebrate the 400-year anniversary of first Thanksgiving this fall. I look forward to seeing everyone in person.

The Mayflower 400 year “Forever” stamps may have run their course as they are not for sale on line at USPS. You may want to contact your local post office in hopes they still have sheets to sell. The price on eBay is double face value and growing.

Our members and committees remain busy with many accomplishments under their belt detailed below.

Our historians have been hard at work adding over 70 new members last year, with over 100 more in the application process! Our numbers total over 800 members at year end.

Our newsletter team has produced this work in the heart of winter with interesting articles and needed updates.  Please take advantage of your $20 store credit, it is now time to redeem.

Our financial state is solid as our strategy to keep a percentage of resources in the stock market has grown to an all time high. Our dues increase was less as we transition the higher costs from the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. It is our mission to provide value to members in times when meetings are not possible using other means. Thank you for your dues and membership!

We recently hosted a book discussion about the early days of Stephen Hopkins with Dr. Kelly’s “Marooned”. This was our first adventure into this format as James Campbell made the introduction and facilitated the event. Brian Atwood coordinated with James Campbell producing over 70 attendees and providing new insights into Hopkin’s exploits including shipwrecks and Jamestown. We hope to add more events featuring other Pilgrims.

Our nominating committee has presented a very talented slate for consideration. In a virtual vote, our BOA unanimously voted for the slate.  Congratulations to all and heartfelt thanks to those who have volunteered thousands of hours yearly.
